I think it would be fair to say the modified car scene in the UK has something of a bad reputation. The public's perception hasn't moved on too much from the ASBO fibreglass days of the late 90's for various reasons there isn't space to discuss here. At it's worst, it can be outright dangerous (leave the open diff 350z at home pal, I'm not trying to be killed at a Wednesday night meet), at best it can feel a little stale. Personally, I think I've seen enough bagged new metal VAG cars on Rotiforms to last a life time.
So all this being said, it was a breath of fresh air to attend the 'Stockyard Social' event hosted by The Drivers Collection on the outskirts of Rotherham last weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect having not been to one of their events before, but it quickly became clear that Alex and the rest of the guys involved have put a lot of effort in behind the scenes in order to cultivate a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere but still keep things interesting. It's very rare, especially in the North, to attend a casual event with such a varied and high calibre of cars in attendance, and that clearly doesn't happen by chance. Not many places you'll see an airbrushed Caprice on hydraulics parked next to a Karman Ghia laying frame! Hard work clearly pays dividends, well done guys. Honourable mention to the lad in the Silver pulsar saloon also - your car was so nice I literally forgot to take a picture of it, sorry dude!
I'll leave the pictures to do the rest of the talking anyway, but make sure you pick up tickets for The Drivers Collection's main show at Sheffield Aero Club on the 11th of September as it's sure to be even bigger and better than this was.
This E34 was particularly stunning, especially when you have a grasp of the amount of work that's gone into getting it to sit like that on those Breytons. Really loved the K10 Micra with what looked like Porsche Tomb Stone seats also, very clean.
